Mary C. Melvin
Fair Housing Division Director
Prior to becoming the Fair Housing Division Director, Mary served as a Compliance Investigator with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities conducting critical statewide cases involving allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Mary also served as an Assistant Director of Programs for Marietta Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). While at Marietta's RYDC, she supported, managed, and developed programs in an effort to reduce recidivism and managed all programming staff including several department heads. Prior to relocating to Georgia, Mary enjoyed serving the state of North Carolina as a Compliance Officer with the North Carolina Human Relations Commission, and as a Mediator with the Elna B. Spaulding Conflict Resolution Center.
Mary holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. In addition, Mary earned an associate degree in Special Education from Vance-Granville Community College. She is a certified investigator by the Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation, and Labor Relations Alternatives, Inc. Furthermore, Mary completed the Carl Vinson Institute of Government and Management Academy from the University of Georgia.
