Celebrating Fair Housing Month!

Henry County Board of Commissioners Recognizes Fair Housing Month with Proclamation Presented to GCEO
Henry County, GA – On April 1, 2025, the Henry County Board of Commissioners, alongside county staff, formally recognized Fair Housing Month during its regularly scheduled meeting. The Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity (GCEO) was honored to be in attendance and to be presented with an official proclamation in recognition of this important occasion.
April marks Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Month, commemorating the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968—a landmark federal law that prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and familial status. This annual observance serves as a reminder of the ongoing commitment to ensuring that all individuals have the right to obtain housing free from unlawful discrimination.
GCEO proudly kicked off its Fair Housing Month activities with the Henry County proclamation and will continue to participate in events across the state throughout April. GCEO is proud to partner with communities across Georgia—like Henry County—that continue to advance fair housing awareness and uphold the principles of access and fairness in housing.
“Fair Housing Month is a time to reflect on the progress we have made and to recommit ourselves to the work that remains,” said Allona Lane Cross, Executive Director of the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity – Office of the Governor. “Equal access to housing is a fundamental right—not a privilege—and we are honored to begin this month with Henry County’s proclamation. We commend the Board of Commissioners for their leadership and continued commitment to ensuring that communities across Georgia remain free from housing discrimination.”
The Commission extends their appreciation to the Henry County Board of Commissioners and staff for their leadership in bringing attention to the importance of Fair Housing Month and for affirming their support of equal housing opportunity for all.
